Explanation of Mahito’s Jujutsu Kaisen Powers

Jujutsu Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits — Curses for short — are two opposing factions in a supernatural conflict in the universe of “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Jujutsu Sorcerers are people who have been educated to combat Curses through the use of a manifestation of negative emotion known as Cursed Energy. Meanwhile, curses are live, hideous embodiments of human evils. The fifth episode introduces viewers to Geto, a wicked Jujutsu Sorcerer, and his troop of Cursed Spirits, which includes the volcano-headed Jogo and plant-like Hanami. Geto and company discuss their ambition to restructure the universe so that Curses are the default life form on Earth rather than humans in that episode and following appearances.

Mahito is one such individual, a Curse created expressly from the animosity people might carry for one another. Midway through the first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” he becomes the adversary in a plot arc dubbed the Vs. Mahito Arc. While Mahito appears primarily behind the scenes before too and during the Vs. Mahito Arc, it is during this arc that he fully demonstrates the breadth of his combat prowess, which is big enough to establish him as one of the series’ most fearsome villains to date.

Mahito is capable of distorting bodies to death.

Mahito’s first use of his abilities happens technically offscreen, at least initially. In the conclusion of Episode 8, Yuji Itadori and mentor Kento Nanami set out to investigate the death of three high school students at a movie theatre. The staff at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School — which serves as both a school for pupils like Yuji and a type of administrative body for deploying Curses — thinks a Cursed Spirit may have been responsible for their disfigurement.

The following episode shows that Mahito murdered those high school students in order to curry favor with a youngster called Junpei whom they had harassed. Mahito, it turns out, killed the three children by pressing his hand on their skulls, quickly distorting and exploding them. This is the first time spectators see Mahito use his hallmark skill, dubbed Idle Transfiguration, which he utilizes to disfigure those three people to death on this occasion.

Mahito’s skill of Idle Transfiguration reshapes the soul.

Nanami pursues Mahito down to an underground sewage tunnel and dares him to a fight halfway through Jujutsu High School’s investigation into the movie theatre murder. Soon after, Nanami realises that some of his standard combat maneuvers are ineffective against his adversary. Mahito inquires of Nanami, in what appears to be a nonsequitur, which he believes is more essential to human existence: the body or the soul. Nanami responds that, in his opinion, the body comes before the soul. Mahito responds by effectively revealing that in the canon of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” it is the opposite way around.

Because Mahito is aware that the soul, not the body, is the fundamental component of all existence, he may utilise his resulting magical abilities to change the soul, so reconstructing its linked body. Mahito assassinated the three high school students by modifying their souls in such a way that their heads changed shape. Their skulls would then explode as a result of their seeming incapacity to sustain their altered state.

Mahito has the ability to change humans into Curses.

Mahito’s capacity to change the shape of a living thing’s soul at will is not limited to murder. Rather than exterminating them, Mahito may also restructure the souls of people, transforming them into Cursed Spirits. This ability is initially demonstrated during Yuji and Nanami’s investigation into Mahito’s movie theatre killings when they come across a pair of Curses on the top of the theatre. While the two Jujutsu Sorcerers easily defeat them, Nanami discovers after the fact that each of their adversaries was originally human.

Mahito subsequently demonstrates his ability to modify the human body to Junpei in his sewer lair, exhibiting a love for experimenting with the size of humans he can construct. Then, during his combat with Nanami, Mahito reveals that he has Curses rendered pocket-sized on his person, which he can reconfigure to fight with him. Finally, the most horrific use of this method happens when Mahito changes Junpei into a Cursed Spirit in front of Yuji, thereby destroying Junpei’s existence as a human being and inflicting psychological trauma on Yuji in the midst of a battle.

Mahito is also capable of altering his own physique.

Additionally, Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration ability may be used on his own body. Mahito initially exhibits this talent during his confrontation with Nanami, whose fighting style is built on creating and exploiting weak areas on his opponents’ bodies. After Nanami utilises her fearsome ability to amputate one of Mahito’s hands, the latter is able to recover nearly instantaneously by regenerating that hand.

Then, during the climactic battle of the Vs. Mahito Arc, which pits Mahito against Yuji and Nanami, Mahito constantly alters the form of his body in order to adapt strategically to shifting battle situations. To begin, Mahito transforms his arms into long blades to be used as weapons before Nanami’s arrival. Later on, after a few more mid-fight transformations, Mahito shrinks to the size of a kid in order to flee once he learns about Yuji’s Divergent Fist ability’s ability to neutralise his Idle Transfiguration talent.

Mahito is a shrewd con artist.

While Mahito’s fighting talents, based on his Idle Transfiguration ability, serve as the foundation for his strength, he is also a formidable influence among the group of Curses aiming to change the Earth in such a way that Cursed Spirits become the dominant lifeform. Even before he is introduced as the antagonist of the Vs. Mahito Arc, Geto reveals in Episode 7 that they want to lock Satoru Gojo’s powers on October 31. Mahito vows to approach that strategy, which has yet to be carried out in the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen,” with human-like cleverness.

He subsequently exhibits part of his ingenuity when he convinces Junpei to befriend and then fight Yuji. Then, following the Vs. Mahito Arc, Mahito returns to the shadows to command the party of Curses. Notably, during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc, Mahito successfully performs a covert mission to collect several strong Cursed Objects from Tokyo’s Jujutsu High School, while representatives from the Tokyo and Kyoto branches of Jujutsu High School battle some of his formidable Cursed Spirit comrades. He triumphs while the majority of his friends perish in combat, indicating that, in addition to his fighting ability, Mahito’s strategic knowledge is critical to the Cursed Spirit team’s future goals.
